Literacy Update: Our Literacy Centers have just gotten a makeover in preparation for starting Reading Groups. We not have 3 rotations instead of 6 allowing for each rotation to be longer so that we can go more in depth into the topic that is being taught. We are also introducing FCRR activities to each Reading Group. Math Update: Artists - Working on Unit 1: Numbers 0-10 Scientists - Working on Unit 1: Reviewing Addition and Subtraction to 10. Theme Update: Things are getting into full swing as the class starting going through the Scientific Process to figure out what happens to gummy bears if you put them into different liquids. Today students came up with hypotheses for water, salt water, vinegar, and baking soda water. Conscious Discipline Update: We are continuing to work on Positive Intent. Trying to find and recognize situations that may have seemed hurtful but were really a misunderstanding or an accident. For instance if a student grabs a marker from another student the class looks at the studnet not as mean or hurtful but not knowing the helpful way to get what the student wanted. We would say "You wanted the marker. You may not grab, grabbing hurts. When you want the marker say 'May I have the marker?'" Wishing you well,
Ms. Claire & Ms. Jenny

Please direct your lunch order questions/comments/concerns to their dedicated email address: [email protected]. As we discussed at the PTA General Body Meeting on Aug 29, An Organic Lunchbox has changed the packaging for our Tuesday Lunches from Styrofoam to a paper soup cup-type material. At the meeting, it was agreed that parents would be willing to pay an extra cost for the more sustainable material. What is Friday Sing you may ask? Friday sing is a weekly school assembly that classes take turn hosting where students and classes may sign up (after being approved by their teacher) to share a talent, celebration, accomplishment, etc with their entire school family. Can Parents come? Of course! Parents are welcome to attend when their student is performing or their class is hosting. Friday Sing will be held every Friday from 2:00-2:30 in the auditorium. If your student would like to perform at Friday Sing please email me, I will then have them perform for me during recess to see if they are performance ready. If so I will then sign them up for the next available opening slot and let you know so that you and your family may attend. Note From Administration SASC is in need for some school volunteers. Literacy Update: Last week and the hurricane week we have been adding in new literacy centers as well as building our stamina in Read-To-Self (13 minutes!). In literacy centers we have introduced Big Board games through PBS Kids using our ClearTouch Board. Expo Markers have also been introduced while practicing handwriting and sight words. Math Update: We are starting Envision Math this week! Conscious Discipline: This week we are focusing on using choices to help break hard situations down. Below is a reading of the book Shubert's Choice. These skills are particularly helpful for at home! Here are some pictures of The Helpful Forest at Gardening, with their book buddies, creating an collage project, and during literacy centers! Wishing you well,
