IMPORTANT!
1 - Nutcracker permission slips and funds are due THIS Friday Dec. 2nd before 9:00am. If we do not receive funds then your student will not be able to attend the field trip. Please email me if there is a problem. 2 - Nutcracker Chaperones. Fortunately we were able to add more chaperone tickets to our SASC block. It is still first come first serve in regards to spots. Email me if you would like to get on the Chaperone list and once you get a confirmation email you can send in the $12.00 for the chaperone ticket. I am anticipating that these new spots will be filled up quickly. I will email the whole class when there are no more slots. 3 - Showcase! This Friday from 1:00-1:50 we are inviting all parents, grandparents, family friends to come in and learn about American History. I have sent home the Unit 3 practice test. We will be taking the Unit 3 test of Friday Dec. 2nd. The questions may be a bit confusing but we are encouraging students to solve them in whichever way they choose as long as they can explain and draw a pictures. Artists - Due to an increase in math homework we decided to postpone handwriting homework. Literacy Update: We are buckling down with our Theme projects in preparation for the showcase. Students have been writing facts about their famous American as well as facts about American Symbols. In our read alouds we have started reading Gingerbread man books (those who were with me last year do not fret, you would be surprised at home many different versions I have and did not get to last year). Math: Artists are finishing up Unit 4 and will be taking their test next week. Scientists are finishing up Unit 3 and will take their test this Friday. Thank you to everyone that was able to join us on the field trip last week! We appreciate your patience as we navigated our first field trip in our new space and at a new location. Upcoming Dates: Nov. 23rd-25th - Thanksgiving Holiday - NO SCHOOL Nov. 28th - Picture Day Dec. 2nd - Nutcracker Permission Slip DUE Dec. 2nd - PTA Barnes and Noble Story Time & Share Night Dec. 9th - SASC Field Trip to The Tallahassee Ballet Nutcracker Dec. 14-16th - Early Release Day Winter Portfolio Conferences: It is time to schedule a Portfolio Conference! The conference is 30 minutes. You will spend 15 minutes with your child as they show you their portfolio binder containing work samples from the fall semester. The other 15 minutes you will spend with us, going over your child's academic, emotional, and social progress. Some families will begin the conference with the portfolio review, and others will meet with us first. When you arrive, you will be informed of which part you will begin with. Your child will have practiced how to share their portfolio. We will also have a parent guide with helpful hints. I have individualized each student's available modules to help them work on what they need most. Educational update: This week we focused on thinking of what we are thankful for. K-1’s first field trip is tomorrow! Here is some important information regarding your student and responsibilities of chaperones. The Helpful Forest and Friendly Phoenix Schedule: 10:30 – Students leave SASC on bus to Tallahassee Museum 11:00 – Students arrive at Tallahassee Museum and meet in front of the Caboose 11:00 – 12:00 – Experience On the Farm Program with selected chaperones 12:00 – 12:30 – Have lunch and play on the playground with all chaperones 12:00 – 12:30 – Explore the museum with all chaperones The Willing Whales and the Helpful Explorers Schedule: 10:30 – Students leave SASC on bus to Tallahassee Museum 11:00 – Students arrive at Tallahassee Museum and meet in front of the Caboose 11:00 – 11:30 – Explore the museum with all chaperones 11:30 – 12:00 – Have lunch and play on the playground with all chaperones 12:00 – 1:00 – Experience On the Farm Program with selected chaperones Field Trip Tips:

A lot of important information went home in the Blue Phoenix Folders today. Make sure you are helping remind your student to bring them back to school we are missing quite a few! MobyMax! We just started using this program in the classroom. Students also have access to this program at home. Please let me know if you did not recieve the email with our classes usernames and passwords. All students are writing about their famous american. We are also doing many read alouds about Thanksgiving. We have been exploring the history and different traditions around the country. Math Update: Artists are finishing up Unit 3 focusing on number 6-10. Scientists just took their Unit 2 test and will be starting Unit 3 tomorrow which focuses on addition and subtraction to 20. Theme Update: We are getting ready for our field trip this Friday to learn about what life was like for early american settlers. Conscience Discipline: Ms. Jenny was very fortunate to be able to attend the CD I Love You Rituals Literacy Training this past weekend. Dec. 14-16th - Early Release Day Literacy Update: In Literacy this week the Editors, Publishers and Printers finished up their Fundations Unit 1 test with flying colors. Unit 1 focused on a review of lowercase letter formation, letter sound correspondence, and routines of how to use the Fundations Magnetic Letter Tiles and Fundations Whiteboards. The Illustrators and Authors are working on identifying the main idea and details in a text. They are also learning how to answer comprehension questions about their text. Math Update: Scientists are finishing up Unit 2 this week with a test on Thursday. Artists have started Unit 3 which focuses on numbers 6-10. Theme: This week we have taken a little detour and are focusing on what being a citizen means, how voting works, and why we celebrate veterans day. We are writing thank you letters to veterans across the country. Conscious Discipline: This week's school family commitment is "I will keep my school family safe." We have been talking about how it is important to keep everyone's bodies safe by using gentle touches, sitting safely and walking but we are stressing the importance of keeping everyone's feelings safe as well. We keep everyone's feeling safe by using helpful and kind words as well as using our BIG voices to solve problems. Specials: Look below at some pictures of The Helpful Forest in Art and Gardening! Literacy Update: All groups have a new reading books this week. Last week's books (other than the Printers) have been sent home. In writing the Birch group is learning how to brain storm in a graphic organizer in preparation of writing narrative stories. Elm group is working on sounding out the first letter in each work of their sentence. Math Update: Artists are take the Unit 2 test later this week. Today they finished their pretest. Scientists are midway through Unit 2 working on fluency in addition and subtraction to 10. Theme Update: Students have finished their personal timelines. This week's theme is focusing on practicing for Friday Sing. These presenting skills will be used again during our Theme Showcase. Conscience Discipline Update: Our weekly commitment this week is to "use kind words with myself and others." We have talked about how using kind words not only includes the actual words spoken but also the tone and intent behind them.
